Ph.D Dissertation: Dynamic Simulation of Fluids
Abstract: Three principles for wave modeling is proposed. Based on these principles, a general model for wave modeling is presented. Assigning different values to the variables in this model can simulate waves in different shapes. A particle system combined with metaball modeling technique is used to model water falling. Besides the improvement of the existing intersection scheme for raytracing metaballs, we also use a three-dimensional DDA algorithm and bilinear interpolation to speed the rendering.

Selected Projects

Project Name: Feature-based Integrated CAD/CAPP/CAM System ICCC.
Project Type: National Key Plan (amount of money: 4500 thousand Chinese Yuan)
Position in the project: main member in CAD group.
Application Field: It is an integrated system covering the entire process from designing to manufacturing. It is mainly oriented toward mechanical design and manufacture
Purpose: A general CAD/CAPP/CAM system like pro/engineer.
Platform Environment: Xwindows/SGI and Xwidows/ Sun Sparc
Major Tools: C language. Rendering is based on a graphics kernel programmed all by ourselves.
Major Approaches: Half-edge structure is used to represent the 3D solid model. The feature operations are achieved by combining several Eular operations. The CAD module is composed of 5 sub-module: 2D drafting, solid modeling, feature operation, surface modeling and drawing generating. CAPP module is the bridge between CAD module and CAM module. It provides an interactive tool for users to input some technological process information which can not be generated automatically and generate the information necessary in CAM.
Remark: The CAD module finally results in a 3D modeling system called GS-CAD after implanting to Windows NT and commercialization.

Project Name: Surface Modeling System.
Project Type: A project from Company (amount of money: 300 thousand Chinese Yuan)
Position in the project: I was in charge of the project.
Application Field: It is developed to model those components which can not be generated by the existing functions of GS-CAD.
Purpose: Satisfying the particular demand in the Space Flight industry.
Platform Environment: Windows NT.
Major Tools: VC++, OpenGL, MFC.
Major Approaches: The surface modeling module is based on NURBS. The main work of this project is to provide more convenient approaches to generate a surface, such as generating a surface to match a series of give boundaries in C1 continuity.
 

Project Name: Virtual Assembly technique
Project Type: A sub-project of 973 plan (amount of money: 320 thousand Chinese Yuan)
Position in the project: I was in charge of the project.
Purpose: Find reasonable assembly path and sequence.
Platform Environment: Windows NT/2000.

Project Name: Computer aided tooth-planting system
Project Type: A project supported by Zhejiang Province (amount of money: 120 thousand Chinese Yuan)
Position in the project: I was in charge of the project.
Application Field: It is helpful to medical diagnosis and surgery.
Purpose: Generating and visualizing the 3D model of teeth and providing manipulating tools for virtual tooth planting surgery.
Platform Environment: Windows NT/2000.
