CHEN Tianzhou entered Zhejiang University mixed class (Honors Program of Engineering), in 1990, and obtained his B.S. degree in computer software in 1994. He studied for M.S. degree in computer architecture, and received his PH.D degree in computer application from Zhejiang University in 1998.
He is a professor of computer science at Zhejiang University. And he is the vice director of computer systems engineering research institute of Zhejiang University. He is the chief researcher on embedded system in Zhejiang Province.
He is a member of IEEE, ACM, senior member of Chinese Institute of Electronics, and a council member of CCF (China Computer Federation).
He is the managing director and cofounder of China Mobile Embedded Software Technology Alliance.
He has drawn up the 3 National Standards.
His current research interests include computer architecture, multi-core system, on-chip interconnection, embedded system, power-aware computing, hardware/software co-design and security.
He has authored and/or coauthored 12 textbooks, more than 200 research papers in major journals and international conferences in computer architecture area. He holds 46 Chinese Patents, 58 Software Copyrights.
He is now undertaking 2 project founded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4  the Special Funds for Key Program of the China, 7 key projects from 863 National High Technology Project of China, 1 National Defense Pre-Research Foundation of China.
His achievements in architecture include: design of a database core which can carry out database transactions at the machine language level; design of information retrieval IP cores; research on on-chip bus and on-chip networks for heterogeneous multi-core architecture; infrastructure for on-chip integrated multi-cores and FPGA based reconfigurable process elements, and related system software, in which some functions have been implemented by specific hardware cores.
His achievements in embedded system include: mechanisms on real-time scheduling such as hard real-time context switch and interrupts; reconfiguring SRAM to memory and stacks to improve real-time performance; chip operating systems that run on SPM based SoC; application specific embedded OS for database application and/or Java. He also has developed an embedded operating system named SMARTOS.
His pioneering investigations on power-aware software for embedded OS in China, accomplishing a design of low-power file systems with multiple storage devices; explorations of infrastructure for DPM, power-oriented OS schedule algorithms; static and dynamic power-aware compilers and implementations of overall infrastructure for power-aware embedded systems.
His achievements in embedded system, smartphone and power-aware software, were once awarded three first prize, two second prize, and a third prize from Ministry of Education, Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou government. He was recipients of Google Research Awards program 2010.
He is responsible for computer organization, embedded system, smartphone, GPGPU and multi-core computing courses for both undergraduates and graduates. He takes charge of 3 national elite course, 5 provincial elite courses.
He sets up the First International Workshop on Computer System Education and Innovation (IWCSEI 2008). He has published 35 international education papers. He has hold 30 teaching training, and trained 1359 teachers from 502 universities.
