Abstract: The past few decades has witnessed leap-frog development of hardware, algorithms, and systems of computer graphics. They together compose indispensable tools for mankind to improve real life and materialize artistic imagination. But how to speedily and effectively generate high-quality 3D graphic content still proves a challenge. Data-driven graphics technology can effectively solve this problem by mining inherent laws and intrinsic attributes of existing graphic data. In this report, I am to introduce key technology and development status of data-based graphics technology, and probe into technical challenges and future development in this field.
Personal introduction: Dr. Tong Xin is chief researcher of Microsoft Asian Academy, research director of the network graphics group, and global partner of Microsoft. Dr. Tong Xin’s main research interests compose of computer graphics and computer vision. His research directions cover texture synthesis, material modeling, realistic rendering, light transmission analysis and modeling, data-driven geometric processing and 3D face animation. Dr. Tong Xin received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Zhejiang University in 1993 and 1996 respectively and got his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University in 1999. Dr. Tong Xin has published more than 100 papers in top international journals and conferences on graphics and vision, which cover more than 50 SIGGRAPH and TOG papers. He has served as editorial board member of ACM TOG, IEEE TVCG, and CGF, and member of the ACM SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPHASIA Paper Committee for many sessions, and he worked as chairman of the Pacific Graphics 2013 Paper Committee. In 2018, he was granted China Computer Graphics Excellence Award.
