Report Topic: Theoretical Computer

Reported by: Lu Pinyan

About the Content: Theoretical computer serves the mathematical foundation of the computer discipline, and it is also a special branch of the computer discipline. This lecture will briefly introduce the definition theoretical computer science, and its basic vision and core goals, and will discuss the relationship between computer theory and applications and correct application of theoretical results. Theoretical computer is also at the forefront of the intersection of computer science and other disciplines. The lecture is to discuss the relationship and in-depth connection between theoretical computer and mathematics, natural science (physics), and social science (economics).

About the Lecturer: Lu Pinyan, professor at the School of Information, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and director of the Theoretical Computer Science Research Center, received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University in January, 2009 and joined Microsoft Asian Academy as associate researcher, researcher and deputy researcher of the Theory Team. He joined Shanghai University of Finance and Economics full-time in December 2015 and led establishment of the Theoretical Computer Science Research Center (ITCS). After four-year-long contribution, his research center has ranked atop in Asia and top 10 worldwide in terms of algorithm and complexity in CSRankings. His main research orientation is theoretical computer that prioritizes overlapping with other disciplines. He has published 27 papers in three major conferences of theoretical computer namely STOC/FOCS/SODA. He won over the best dissertation awards from major international conferences such as ICALP2007, FAW2010 and ISAAC2010. He served as co-chair of FAW-AAIM 2012, WINE 2017, FAW 2018, ISAAC 2019 and other international conference program committees, and was the program committee member of STOC, FOCS, SODA and other top international conferences. He won the ACM Outstanding Scientist Award (2019), the 8th World Congress of Chinese Mathematicians ICCM Mathematics Award (formerly Morningside Mathematics Award) Silver Award (2019), Young Scientist of China Computer Society (2014), Microsoft Scholar (2008), Tsinghua University University Special Scholarship (2007) and other honors. http://itcs.shufe.edu.cn/pinyan/
