Exploring New Knowledge, Pursuing Ideals - A Record of the Peer Experience Sharing Event of the Turing Class on April 9th, 2022.

04-14-2022

On the warm and fragrant afternoon of April 9, 2022, with the spring breeze and blooming flowers, the Turing Class peer experience sharing event was held in the exhibition hall on the second floor of Crescent Moon Building. The event invited Turing Class alumni, Yu Aoyang from the 19th grade, and Yuan Zheqing from the 20th grade, and was hosted by Zhang Xiaobin, the teaching supervisor of the Turing Class, with student representatives from the 21st grade attending.

First, Zhang Xiaobin introduced the purpose of the event from the perspective of the senior students - to provide guidance and advice for the freshmen to better adapt to university life and face challenges ahead. After introducing the two outstanding alumni, the event officially began.

Yu Aoyang shared his university experience from the past two and a half years, starting with several things he regretted and answering the question of how to spend one's undergraduate years. He also shared his experience and ideas on studying, research, and life planning, and gave some advice.

Firstly, Yu Aoyang gave his personal interpretation of the Turing Class training program, encouraging everyone to develop their own personalities on the basis of the existing program, realistically plan their own life goals, and bravely pursue their own ideals.

Secondly, Yu Aoyang emphasized the topic of finding one's life ideals. He believed that we should focus on the present and think about what kind of person do I want to become? What kind of life do I want to live in the future? to avoid regrets in the future. Yu Aoyang shared his regret of not taking the opportunity to participate in research projects in his freshman year. Therefore, he encouraged everyone to actively participate in research projects under the guidance of mentors, to determine their true interests and direction early on.

Afterward, Yu Aoyang shared some high-quality learning resources and his experience on how to lay a solid foundation, which benefited everyone greatly.

Following Yu Aoyang's informative sharing, Yuan Zheqing also shared his experience. Due to the pandemic, Yuan's sharing had to be conducted online, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the students who were eager to learn.

Following Yu Aoyang's more specific experience sharing in academics and research, Yuan Zeqing chose to share ten statements from the perspective of a college student's life that he wanted to share with us: 1. Begin with the end in mind and be self-driven; 2. Redundancy is the possibility beyond uncertainty, don't be tied to short-sighted interests; 3. Value the development of independent character, don't be swayed by the majority's choices; 4. Actively communicate, be good at exchanging ideas, and expand the surface area of information intake and interaction; 5. Communicate, reflect, and practice, form a virtuous cycle of initiative; 6. Break the boundary of knowledge imposed by exam-oriented education, become a pioneer and break through the barriers; 7. Reconstruct knowledge and organize it into a structured way of thinking; 8. Learning by doing; 9. Focus on the thinking behind skills and the ideas behind knowledge; 10. Create an environment that fosters positive feedback.

Combining his year-plus of studying and researching in the Turing Class, Yuan Zeqing encourages us not to be constrained by various evaluation systems and short-term interests when we arrive in college, but to begin with the end in mind and be self-driven, valuing the realization of self-worth and the development of independent character. In addition, Yuan Zeqing emphasized the way to achieve a virtuous cycle of initiative - communication, reflection, and practice. In the context of the cross-enabling of computer science and other industries, we should strengthen communication with mentors, classmates, and friends, reflect on what we've learned, and put it into practice, achieving the true goal of learning and enriching ourselves.

After the two seniors shared their experiences, there was a lively exchange of questions and answers between the students and the two seniors. The atmosphere was very lively.

After the event, the students also shared their own thoughts and experiences:

-Turing 2102 He Xuming:

Today, the sharing of the two senior classmates has benefited me a lot. They provided many feasible suggestions for us, the younger students, based on their own experiences. I can feel that their vision has become broader during their own exploration. After listening to their sharing, my own vision has also been expanded, and I have learned many new ideas and methods in learning and life, which has given me a new understanding of future development.

-Turing 2101 Han Yixuan:

After listening to the sharing of the two senior classmates, I have gained some new insights into university life. For example, my previous understanding of university was somewhat high-school-oriented and passive. Now I know that many opportunities in university need to be actively sought. Also, for research and projects, one should have their own attempts (such as Senior Yu Aoyang), and establish and maintain a firm target (Senior Yuan Zheqing). In general, I feel that the lecture has a considerable influence on me, and I have also seen a different university life.

-Turing 2102 Niu Renjie:

Today, I had the opportunity to listen to the lectures given by two outstanding Turing senior classmates. They gave some guidance and help for the problems of our 21st-grade students, which inspired us deeply. The most impressive thing they said was that for research, plan early and take action early, and do not always think about the lack of ability in various aspects. Instead, continue to fill the gaps in knowledge and improve one's abilities during the research process. Overall, I gained a lot from today's lecture, and I am very grateful for the sharing of the two senior classmates.

-Turing 2101 Feng Sibo:

Today's event, whether it was the sharing of Senior Yu Aoyang or Senior Yuan Zheqing, has benefited me a lot. Senior Yu Aoyang shared the details and methods of learning from the perspective of the future, which allowed everyone to have more diverse learning channels. Senior Yuan Zheqing gave people new enlightenment from the attitude towards life and the way of life. Both of them have greatly benefited me.

-Turing 2102 Fan Zehao:

In the second semester of the first year, the number and difficulty of major courses increased, and I sometimes felt lost in the learning process. This peer sharing can be said to have pointed the way for me, making me understand that learning is not limited to textbooks, but to pursue what I truly love, which adds motivation to my daily learning.

-Turing 2102 Yuan Quanze:

This sharing has benefited me a lot. Senior Yu Aoyang is not only strong but also summarizes his past experiences very clearly. Some of the questions he asked were also very targeted, which is a direct hit for people like me who don't know where to invest their experiences. For example, to test whether you have so-called engineering thinking, you can answer, If you are asked to make a DingTalk, how do you do it? To test whether you have learned a math course well, you can ask yourself, Can you apply it? Do you understand the physical meaning behind the mathematics? Thank you very much for the experience sharing of the senior classmates, and I hope to communicate more with excellent senior classmates and teachers in the future.

-Turing 2102 Hu Yue:

This event has ended successfully. We believe that through this peer experience sharing event, the students of Turing Class 21 will have a clearer understanding and plan for their future learning and life. I also hope that everyone can explore new knowledge and find themselves in the following university life.
