讲座题目:Location and Activity: Human-centric Sensing and Analytics

讲座时间:2013年11月6日上午10:00-11:30

讲座地点:曹光彪主楼201室

讲座概要:A rapidly growing number of wireless sensors and smartphones equipped with miniature sensors have brought into an era of pervasive sensing to enhance the awareness of the physical space and thus provide essential supports, especially in the built environments. Different from traditional sensing whose emphasis has been on unattended and autonomous system operation, human-centric sensing particularly focuses on sensing people, i.e., an individual collects sensor data about themselves for their own use. In the first part of this talk, I will present a novel approach to floor localization - identifying the floor level in a multi-floor building on which a mobile user is located. The system uses mobile phone sensing only without any infrastructure support. We capture user encounters and analyze user trails, though crowdsourcing, we are able to find their current floor levels. In the second part of the talk, I will focus on analyzing sensor data streams from Wireless Body Sensor Networks to detect and analyze human activities. This problem is particularly challenging because human activities are often performed in not only a simple, but also a complex manner in real life. I will present a novel data mining approach to recognizing sequential, interleaved and concurrent activities.
